FACILITY AND OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT

When the manufacturing sector became prominent following the Industrial Revolution, an operations manager’s task was seen as production management. However, developments over the last few years have enlarged the responsibilities of production managers to include the management of services and the supply chain, and the term ‘facilities management’ has been coined to encompass these changes.

Examples:

  • Managing departments such as: cleaning, security, maintenance, engineering, utilities, parking, waste management, human resources etc.
  • Facilities Managers are expected to manage all the mandatory contracts and the expense budget for the organization.
